Giant Impact Hypothesis

The Giant Impact Hypothesis is the leading scientific model explaining the formation of the Moon. According to this idea, a Mars-sized protoplanet called Theia collided with early Earth. The debris ejected into space later combined to form the Moon. This impact also affected Earth’s rotation rate and axial tilt, and likely created a global magma ocean again.
