Volatiles

Volatiles are chemical compounds that easily transition into gas at relatively low temperatures. Examples include water, carbon dioxide, and ammonia. They may have been delivered to early Earth through volcanic outgassing and meteorite impacts. Volatiles are essential for the formation of atmospheres and oceans.
