Radioactive decay

Radioactive decay is the process by which unstable atomic nuclei transform into more stable forms while releasing energy. On early Earth, it was an important heat source that helped keep the planet partially molten. It also forms the basis of radiometric dating methods used to determine the age of rocks. It is a natural and continuous nuclear process.
