Late Heavy Bombardment

The Late Heavy Bombardment is a proposed period, about 4.1 to 3.8 billion years ago, when the inner Solar System experienced intense asteroid and comet impacts. Many large lunar craters date from this time. These impacts may have vaporized early oceans or delayed the emergence of life on Earth. At the same time, they might have delivered water and organic molecules to the planet.
