Accretion

Accretion is the process by which small particles collide and stick together to form larger bodies. In the early Solar System, dust and gas in the protoplanetary disk gradually grew into planetesimals and eventually planets. Gravity and collision energy drive this growth. Earth itself formed through this gradual accumulation process.
